"Caring for our Community Cats through TNR"
TRAP Cats (Trap Reduce Area Population of Cats) is a group of volunteers dedicated to
reducing the population of community cats through targeted Trap Neuter Return in DeLand FL

TNR is the acronym for Trap Neuter Return and is the most effective and proven way to reduce the population of community cats.

TNR involves safely trapping a cat and transporting it to a veterinary clinic where the cat is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and ear tipped. Once fully recovered, the cat is returned to the exact location where it was initially trapped.

Learning from the success of the nonprofit group Neighborhood Cats in New York City, it was clear that TNR in targeted areas while working with residents to care for and report any new community cats was the answer to success. Since we have TNR and built relationships with many residents in the SW quadrant of DeLand , that is the area of our current focus.

TNR is most effective when the sterilization rate is maintained as close to 100% as possible.
It is critical that feeders and residents maintain a watchful eye for any new cats so they can be Spayed/Neutered immediately.

We utilize Volusia County Animals Services Spay Neuter Clinic
for free TNR for cats located in DeLand Unincorporated areas.
We use low cost spay neuter clinics for cats located within the
city limits of DeLand. Those surgeries are reimbursed by the
City of DeLand up to $8000 per fiscal year. Over that $8000,
we need “Sponsor a Spay” donations at $50 per cat.

Trap and Kill or Relocating cats is inhumane and has been proven to not be effective. When cats are removed from locations, new cats move in and take over vacated areas and continue to breed.

We are not a rescue and do not foster, rehome or treat sick/injured cats.
Our focus is Spay/Neuter to prevent further community cat population growth.
